KIMPTON BANNEKER HOTEL
Hyperlocal character and a warm embrace of the global citizen define Kimpton and The Banneker Hotel. When they asked us to design a hotel in the heart of our capital, we looked to the night sky for answers.
Tucked in among a constellation of embassies and icons just a few blocks north of the White House, sits The Banneker. Inspired by self-taught astronomer and mathematician Benjamin Banneker, we conjured a soul for the whole property.
After L’Enfant’s dismissal George Washington and Andrew Ellicott relied heavily on Banneker’s surveying, mapmaking and vision in order to dream up and lay out our nation’s capital. He designed them a grid in the marsh that reflected the movement of the Heavens above. We were inspired by his artful intellect, imagination and courage.
This North Star icon lies at the center of our brand.

Our task was considerably more modest than his, but we were inspired by the ancient tools of Banneker's craft and an imagination as elegant as it was brilliant.
The wayfinding tool we devised is versatile piece of art that carries the story as it guides guests wherever they want to go.
