When it opened in 1914, Central Station was a lively train station bustling with folks traveling to, from, and through the Bluff City. But as Americans everywhere shifted away from rail travel in the 1960s, the station’s activity began to decline. Though the station itself remained open, the historical building was underutilized and eventually ignored. The Central Station just never quite lived up to its full potential.

The challenge was clear: transform this once-bustling hub into an essential presence on the now revitalized S. Main. Drastic measures were called for, and thankfully that’s our specialty. With the tracks as our guide and the station’s unique history and location as our foundation, we created a boutique hotel brand that feels anything but small and confined.

We created a custom typeface that mimicked the original and then we accented it with a subtle flair of our own.

SIGNAGE / WAYFINDING

As we implemented our signage and wayfinding, we reused some of the original train station signage with updated neon lights.

We snatched this shipping container off a train, flipped it on its head, and created a monument sign.
